An inexpensive option to Toronto(has lived here)

Hamilton is an industrial city on the Western shore of Lake Ontario. There is a large multicultural population from Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Areas in the East End and Downtown are very run down, and you will see many abandoned or vacant units in these areas. The West End near McMaster University is very quiet and has very nice neighborhoods. Anywhere in the North End is to avoid. Being close to the factories, there is constant action and pollution. Hamilton has an above average cancer rate. The south end (on the mountain) is a 300ft ascent uphill on one of 5 roads that goes up the mountain. There is little to do above the mountain, except for Hamilton's only decent shopping mall (Limeridge Mall). Nightlife is great on Hess St, it attracts many Torontonians. Everything from bars to clubs to martini lounges, all with very decent prices compared to downtown Toronto.
